PA solar panel legislation

HARRISBURG, PA — Rep. Doyle Heffley will soon introduce legislation requiring the recipients of grant funding for solar panels to use panels produced in the United States.

“Many of these panels are being produced in places such as China, and as a result, they are available at much lower rates than those made by American companies,” Heffley said. “Because the panels are less expensive, quality control and reliability issues are a great concern.”

Heffley’s legislation, if eventually signed into law, would amend the Alternative Energy Investment Act of 2008. The law set up long-term incentives in the development of alternative energy, and other similar projects, across the state.

“I highly encourage private and public entities to submit applications for any state grant program,” Heffley added. “I just want to make sure they’re getting their money’s worth and, at the same time, supporting American companies.”
