Blooming Grove adopts emergency management plan

The Blooming Grove Township supervisors unanimously adopted an emergency management resolution at a brief business meeting on September 2.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Services Code mandates that the township prepare, maintain and keep current an emergency operations plan for the prevention and minimization of injuries and damage caused by major emergencies or disasters.

The township prepared the plan in order to provide prompt and effective emergency responses to any incidents, according to the resolution. The plan was not available for review at the meeting, but chairman Randy Schmalzle complimented the volunteers who put it together.

“They did a great job, a very thorough job,” he said.

The resolution went into effect immediately.

The plan must be reviewed and updated periodically.

In a separate matter, Schmalzle said the September 16 conditional-use hearing for Kahr Firearms Group may be moved to the fire company, next door to the township building on Route 739, in case there is an overflow crowd. The supervisor said he has been contacted by many residents interested in the matter.

If the meeting is moved, a sign will be placed on the door of the township building directing attendees to go next door.

The hearing will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular township business meeting.

The New York gun manufacturer hopes to establish corporate offices and a manufacturing plant in the dormant Pike County Business Park.

The supervisors also reported that the township collected almost $800 in August for building and zoning permits.
