New York State Police in Middletown are investigating the apparent drowning of a New Jersey man in the Delaware River. On August 17 at approximately 1:15 p.m., Jamel Rounds, age 21, of Paterson, NJ was swimming in the Delaware River near a private residence on Sleepy Hollow Road in the Sparrowbush section of the Town of Deerpark.
Rounds was carried approximately 100 yards down river by a strong current, and became submerged in a pool of deep water. Rounds was not wearing a life jacket. He was located and removed from the water by the Sparrowbush Fire Department, and transported to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis by ambulance, were he was pronounced deceased. Foul play is not suspected.
