Liberty Man arrested following stabbing investigation

On December 21st, 2015 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Cain Valencia, 19 of Liberty, after an investigation into a stabbing that occurred on December 11th, 2015. Police were initially alerted that a male with a stab wound had been brought to the emergency room of Catskill Regional Medical Center in the late evening hours of December 11th, 2015.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim had been stabbed at a residence on Orchard Street in the Village of Liberty. Further investigation resulted in Valencia being located in Ferndale on December 21st, 2015 and arrested without incident. Valencia was charged with Assault in the 2nd degree a felony and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor. Valencia was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Additionally Valencia was served with an order of protection from the court barring him from having any contact with the victim of the stabbing. Valencia was again arrested by the Village of Liberty Police Department on December 26th 2015 when Liberty Police learned that Valencia had violated the order of protection after communicating with the victim on Main Street in Liberty on December 25th, 2015, after bailing out of Sullivan County Jail.

Valencia was charged with criminal contempt in the 2nd degree a misdemeanor and was again arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court. Valencia was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $600 bail. The Village of Liberty Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Village of Monticello Police Department and the New York State Police.
