PIKE COUNTY, PA — Safe Haven of Pike County, Inc. will offer a training opportunity for volunteers to become victim advocates for our agency. Victim advocates help survivors of traumatic victimization on their road to recovery and healing by providing them with direct emotional support, information on the criminal justice system, resources in the community and crisis counseling.
Safe Haven’s Victim Advocates help the organization provide free, confidential services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other serious crimes both in person at its office and through its hotline. Applicants are required to complete criminal and child abuse background checks prior to service. The 2015 volunteer advocate training class will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., starting on April 1 and ending May 28. Participants will also be asked to complete some online training prior to the conclusion of the class. To register, email mw@shopc.org or call 570/296-2827, ext. 205.
