MATAMORAS, PA — The local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will hold its JAKES Day event at the Matamoras Rod and Gun Club on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. The club is located on Gun Club Drive off of Cummins Hill Road at 120 Gun Club Rd.
JAKES, which stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship, is dedicated to informing, educating and involving youth in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of natural resources.
The free event is for youth ages 17 and under. There will be supervised shooting opportunities for archery, .22 rifle and shotgun. There will be a presentation on Lyme disease; one of the members will discuss his experience hiking the Appalachian Trail; and there will be a talk by a PA Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer.
