JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Western Sullivan Public Library’s Public Computer Center (PCC) is running several events through January and February.

The “Web Design Series” begins January 24 and runs every Friday at the Jeffersonville Branch from 5 to 7 p.m. This 5-part series will start with an introduction on how websites work and review basic coding for absolute beginners. By the end of the first class, students will be able to create a simple website. The classes continue by building on the knowledge of the previous class. By the end of the series, students will understand how to improve a website with animations, and dynamic content that changes depending on who's viewing the site. Great for tech-minded teens, business people who don't want to pay someone else to build their web presence, or anyone who loves to learn new things.

In February look for the five-part “Take Control of Your Photos” series. This series will begin with the Managing Photos classes on Saturday, February 1 and 8 in Narrowsburg from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will learn how to download pictures from a camera or phone to a computer or other device, how to do basic editing, and work on moving and storing pictures both online and off. To continue this series, three classes on photo editing will be offered using a free alternative to PhotoShop called GiMP. Students will learn how to do basic edits, repair damaged photographs, and practice more advanced techniques. The photo editing classes will be held on Wednesdays in Callicoon from 10am to 12 noon on February 12, 19, and 26. Students should arrive at class with GiMP on their device or plan to use a library laptop.

Many other classes are available, check the website wsplonline.org/PCC for the schedule. The PCC offers computer classes and support during the following times: Tuesdays in Jeffersonville: Support 1-7pm; Wednesdays in Callicoon: Class 10am-12pm; Support 1-5pm; Fridays in Jeffersonville: Support 1-3pm; Class 5-7pm; Saturdays in Narrowsburg: Support 10am-1pm; Class 1-3pm.

All services of the PCC are free. For computer support just show up at a library during the regular support hours and a consultant will be available for assistance. Registration for courses may be done by calling the library at 845-887-4040 (Callicoon), 845-482-4350 (Jeffersonville), or 845-252-3360 (Narrowsburg), or through the website at www.WSPLonline.org/PCC.
