REGION — In celebration of 2012’s National Banned Books Week, September 20 to October 6, Western Sullivan Public Library will publish a journal of local writing inspired by our favorite banned and challenged books.

Western Sullivan Public Library invites writers of all ages and levels to respond to their favorite banned books with poetry, short fiction, or non-fiction. Submitted responses will be included in a special Banned Books Week publication called “INCITE.” INCITE contributors will be encouraged to read their creation at the October 5 First Fridays Contemporary Authors series. All opinions and creations welcome within the following guidelines.

All ages invited to submit original creations. One submission is allowed per person. Each submission must mention the banned or challenged book in its title. (Example: “Ode to Catcher in the Rye’s Holden Caulfield” or “Put the Match Down—Go Read Harry Potter!”) Poetry submissions should be 25 lines or less. Fiction or non-fiction should be 250 words or less. Submissions will be accepted by email only, sent to lmoran@rcls.org with “Incite” in the subject line. The deadline for submissions is September 20.
