Library holds community writing project

SULLIVAN COUNTY, PA — The Western Sullivan Public Library system and Sullivan West Central School District are jointly sponsoring a community writing project for the summer of 2011. Entitled “Got a Minute? Let me tell you!,” this program is designed to encourage community residents of all ages to write personal statements expressing important beliefs, ideas or messages. These might be seen as personal “editorials,” or as meaningful personal statements that individuals want to share with others.

Throughout July, August, and September, the branches of the Western Sullivan Public Library will accept these statements. Submissions may be made electronically, in the form of emails sent to del@rcls.org, jef@rcls.org or plohr@rcls.org; or by dropping hard copy off at any of the three library branches.

Each submission should include the author’s name, address, age, email address (if one exists), and a signed agreement allowing us to post the statement on the library’s website and to submit it to the Sullivan County Democrat, and The River Reporter. Essays deemed especially well written or especially interesting or meaningful will be identified and passed on to these newspapers.

All authors will see their works posted on the library’s website, open to the entire community to read.

Librarians or committee members will read every essay to ensure that only serious submissions are posted. Those including slander, obscenities, copyright violations, or are otherwise unfit for publication will not be posted to the websites.
