Earth Day Festival at Monti high

MONTICELLO, NY — The Monticello High School Eco Club will host an Arbor-Earth Day Festival on April 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Monticello High School by the auditorium.

There will be school clubs, environmentally friendly exhibitors, and activities and crafts for children. The club will present awards to the winners of the elementary school poster contest and middle and high school essay contests, as well as its second Eco Hero Award, at the festival.

The main attraction will be “Close Encounters with Birds of Prey.” Participants will see six live raptors and spend a magical hour gaining a greater knowledge and appreciation of the raptors of the Northeast.

The event is free, though donations will be accepted. There will be a free gift for the first 100 people to arrive.

HONESDALE, PA — There will be an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23 in downtown Honesdale at the Fred Miller Pavilion, Seventh and Main streets at the Park and Shop lot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors will be able to sign up for Honesdale’s new community garden, buy trees and plants to spruce up their yards, learn about beekeeping, composting or how to build a rain barrel and talk to members of Transition Honesdale, Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support (SEEDS) and Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA).

Attend a tree planting for Earth Day

ELDRED, NY — The newly chartered Eldred Lions club will participate in Earth Day this year by planting a six-foot pink dogwood tree in the newly created Corner Community Garden, located at the four corners in Eldred. The tree planting will take place at 12 noon on Friday, April 22.

The tree will be planted into the octagon shaped centerpiece of the garden, symbolizing the garden’s opening. The tree planting is one of many community projects currently being planned by the Eldred Lions club, according to Eldred Lions President Lou Monteleone. All members of the community are invited to attend.
