This past Friday was Friday the 13th and my friend's birthday. So she held a superstition birthday party, naturally. She decorated her house with a bunch of candles and colored string lights and a ladder and other creepy paraphernalia. She invited people to BYOBC (bring your own black cat). I have a black cat (named Iggy) but thought he should maybe stay home. So I dressed as a black cat. It was a really fun party. We played "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder of course.
On Saturday the Heron celebrated their 5th anniversary with a swinging party in their downstairs space the Emerald Ballroom. The band Mountain Wave was playing. There was a free buffet and $5 drink specials. They know how to throw a party! It was actually too crowded, so we stayed for a drink and then headed to Callicoon. A band was playing at the dive bar Sidetracks. But it turned out we missed them play. One of the members of the band, Nick Forte, continued the music by DJing. He played awesome danceable tunes and a small dance party emerged. He's a DJ on WJFF, check him out.
Sunday was my mom's birthday, the same as Martin Luther King Jr. My parents are vegetarians and my dad is a picky eater, so they are willing to drive far distances for good food. We went to the Rosendale Cafe in Rosendale, NY. It's a really great vegetarian spot with a lot of options from burritos to sandwiches to bigger entrees. I got the nachos and the brown rice veggie burger. Both were so so good. My parents are also proponents of the "scenic drive." So on the way home we went through New Paltz and the Gunks.
After this weekend I was extremely tired and needed to catch up on sleep.
