RSVP: seniors giving back to the seniors

I used to think that by the time I reached retirement age, I’d be ready for some serious downtime. I thought that eventually all grandparents moved to Florida and played shuffleboard. But after spending an afternoon with the fine folks of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Sullivan County, I’m inclined to rethink my priorities.

Wayne County Farmers Market doubles up on seniors vouchers

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Farmers Market (WCFM) just introduced a program that will enhance the buying power of seniors shopping for fresh, local food with their vendors. If a senior spends the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers at the WCFM, it will give them its own certificate worth an equivalent amount.

It’s Senior Weekend

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Select farmers’ markets in the Catskills accept Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Checks, as well as SNAP/EBT and WIC benefits. Seniors 60 and over who meet income requirements are eligible to receive $20 in checks to spend at the participating farmers’ markets.

Stroke: we’re all at risk

The risk of stroke increases as you get older: It nearly doubles every decade after you reach 55 years of age. But that does not mean that the rest of the population isn’t at some risk as well; even children can get strokes. So it is wise for members of all age groups to be familiar with the information shown on the graphic at right.

BÀ & ME opens new location

MOUNTAINDALE, NY — Bà & Me, a Vietnamese sandwich shop that opened its first Sullivan County location in Callicoon in 2014, is adding a new location at 60 Main St., #2. There will be a grand opening celebration on Friday, July 20 from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

LIBERTY, NY — The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce will hold its First Friday Networking Breakfast on Friday, August 3 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Oscar Brown’s, 2514 State Rte. 52. The sponsor is CD Trips, LLC. There will be networking, breakfast, a 50/50 raffle and more.
