Young basketballers advance in Elks Hoop Shoot

Posted

LIBERTY, NY — Sullivan West hoopsters Elizabeth Reeves and Brandon Haass won in their divisions in the first stage of the national free-throw program at Liberty High School recently.

Reeves, who competed against other 12- and 13-year-old girls, is now moving on to the district competition, scheduled to be held at Sullivan County Community College on January 6. Haas will advance with other 10- and 11-year-old boys from across the district. Elks groups are embedded in their communities across the country, investing in programs that help children grow up healthy and drug free.

Both Sullivan West students will be representing Elks Lodge 1545 out of Liberty at the January district shoot. You can cheer on the young ballers as they compete on January 6 with the hopes to go all the way to Elks hoop-shoot nationals in Chicago, IL, on April 27.

The Elks Lodge 1545 volunteers were instrumental in arranging local competitions in the schools, having the local shoot-out in Liberty and treating all kids and families to lunch and awards after the contest.
