‘World’s Worst Art’ at Old Stone House

HASBROUCK, NY — The Old Stone House of Hasbrouck is presenting its first-ever “World’s Worst Art” show, with a grand opening reception on Saturday, July 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. One oddball installation, in a graphic confrontation, takes the axe to pieces of genuine art. Another questions whether some creative works have really earned their premier spots—in the garbage can. Some modern masterpieces may seem suddenly ugly, and classic styles will turn oddly unpleasant.

And it’s all for sale—for a buck, or 10. The only sure thing about quality will be the snacks and wine at the opening reception. As an added attraction, students in The Old Stone House “Messy Smocks” art program will spend a class session deliberately creating bad art for the show. “It’s Oscar the Grouch meets Van Gogh,” said teacher Andrea Eddings.

The show will also be open Sunday afternoon, July 15, next door to the revolutionary Bastille-Day Weekend Yard Sale, and by appointment on subsequent weekends. It’s all part of the 2012 fundraising program at The Old Stone House of Hasbrouck, 282 Hasbrouck Rd., a community and arts center that hosts original art exhibitions, classes for adults and children and more.
