DAMASCUS, PA — Bread and Puppet Theater, the 57-year-old political theater company from Vermont, will perform "The Insurrection-Resurrection Service Circus" at River Hill, located at 88 Rock Run Rd. on Monday, September 21 at 6 p.m. Doors open 5 p.m.

“If you’ve heard about Bread and Puppet but haven’t made it up to northern Vermont, now’s your chance,” said Andrea Henley Heyn who is organizing the event with Chuck Heyn. Heyn added, “It’s a theatrical performance that will make you think.”

Farm Arts Collective founder Tannis Kowalchuk added her endorsement: “Bread and Puppet is one of the most important and influential theatre companies in the United States. What an incredible opportunity for our river valley community to see this legendary troupe!”

Bread and Puppet founder Peter Schuman describes this work, saying, “The Insurrection-Resurrection Service Circus is a service for citizens, aliens and immigrants alike to demonstrate the ills that inspire uprising against incompetent government and the tragedies that result from that incompetence and call for resurrection.” The frequently changing acts of the circus will be performed outdoors on a hillside amphitheater with ample space for audiences to respect distancing. Bread and aioli will also be served in compliance with distancing rules.

On this short regional September tour, Bread and Puppet is teaming up with venues on the upper eastern seaboard who have the interest and ability to implement the COVID-19 safety practices that developed this summer in Vermont in order to bring their new work to audiences outside of Vermont. They have been performing all summer on their farm in Glover, VT, for socially distanced, outdoor audiences, and have collaborated with health professionals to develop the systems and practices necessary to offer the current shows as safely as possible.

Tickets are limited to 100 for COVID precautions and must be purchased in advance. To buy tickets and get more information, click here.
