Winter survival hike at PEEC

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will host a winter survival hike on Saturday, December 8 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The facilitator of this program, Mike Dennis of Traditional Earth Skills, will teach hikers a variety of techniques required to survive in the woods during the winter months. Participants of this interactive hike will learn useful wintertime skills, including how to build a basic shelter and start a fire with minimal supplies. The winter survival hike is for adult participants only. The cost of this program is $20 per person and pre-registration is requested.

Dennis has studied native wilderness skills and botany since 1995. His company, Traditional Earth Skills, was founded in 2006 and offers a variety of living history as well as wilderness skills, workshops and presentations. These programs are combined with a genuine concern for recent climate changes occurring world-wide, ultimately hoping to create solutions we can all live with.

PEEC’s mission is to advance environmental education, sustainable living and appreciation for nature through hands-on experience in a national park. PEEC provides unique, year-round environmental experiences to families, school groups, scouts and nature enthusiasts of all ages. The environmental center is located near mile marker 8, within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Visit www.peec.org or call 570/828-2319.
