National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

MILFORD, PA — Pike County Hands of Hope will join with organizations and spiritual communities nationwide in commemorating “National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day” with its seventh annual candlelight vigil on Saturday, December 21 at 6 p.m., on the steps of the Pike County Courthouse, 401 Broad St., Milford. Prayer will be offered for all who live or who have died homeless in Pike County.

Pike County Hands of Hope invites everyone to gather and light a candle as a way to support and remember individuals who live or who died homeless in Pike County. The ceremony will last about an hour, followed by a short walk down the street to the Presbyterian Church of Milford for post ceremony gathering for coffee and desserts.

‘A Year of Listening and Learning’

NARROWSBURG, NY — Local author John Harvey will visit the Tusten-Cochecton Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library on Friday, December 20 at 10 a.m. for a presentation and brief reading form his book, “The Stillness of the Living Forest: A Year of Listening and Learning.”

Harvey’s book was inspired by his personal commitment to sit for an hour a week, for an entire year, at the same spot in the woods along the shoreline of Prompton Lake. His mission was to fully engage his five senses and observe, listen, appreciate and learn from nature.

Drawing upon his background in clinical psychology, Harvey will share his year-long experience of blending in with nature, as well as the healing potential of nature encounters. For more information, visit www.wsplonline.org, or call 845/252-3360.

All are invited to the one-hour service, sponsored by the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, which will be held in Room 102 of the Narrowsburg Union.
