Winter holidays create joy

Posted

I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving, surrounded by family and friends. We’re kicking off the magic of the holiday season, now that the calendar has turned to December. We plan on making the most of the upcoming weekends to celebrate with a variety of community events.

Here are some events and happenings in and around our community:

The Cochecton Men’s Club will hold its first annual Kids’ Christmas Party on Saturday, December 14 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cochecton Men’s Club Hall (former Cochecton Presbyterian Church). Santa and his elves will be there, and there will be an ornament-decorating project, coloring and snacks. See you there.

The Sullivan West Class of 2030 will present the movie “Elf” at the Callicoon Theater on Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. Get in the holiday spirit and wear your favorite ugly sweater. Tickets cost $12 individually or $40 for a family pack of four or more. Pay at the door and support the Class of 2030. Thank you to the Callicoon Theater for donating the space.

Dickens on the Delaware will be held on Saturday, December 14 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Main Street in Callicoon. Retailers, galleries and restaurants will highlight their holiday goods and dazzle town visitors with their holiday spirit. Shopkeepers will be dressed in Victorian garb, and stores, restaurants and the surrounding environs will be decorated to recreate the days of yore.

You’ll find holiday markets with local artisans and seasonal treats; a holiday photo studio; caroling; live music; activities for children; free horse-and-buggy rides; theater performances; hot chocolate, eggnog and spiced wine; and much, much more.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 7 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for Christmas Magic on Main Street in Narrowsburg.
