ONLINE — An upcoming Penn State Extension webinar will focus on strategies for successful forestland succession planning. 

“Land Succession and Estate Planning for Forest Owners” will occur from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  

Wednesdays and Mondays, February 19, 24 and 26 and March 3 and 5. 

This series is designed for forest owners, foresters, land managers, lawyers, conservation district staff and natural resources educators. 

Planning the future of forestland is a critical step in preserving its health, value and legacy, according to organizers. This webinar series offers an in-depth exploration of the challenges and opportunities associated with forestland succession. 

 Participants will gain insights into practical tools and strategies for succession planning, addressing tax implications, and creating a plan to transition landownership smoothly while fostering family harmony. Expert presenters aim to help attendees maintain forest health and sustain family ownership for generations. 

Sessions will cover: 

— Considerations for underrepresented forest owners. 

— Common issues in land transitions and succession planning. 

— Strategies for transitioning landownership while maintaining forest health, preserving family ownership and minimizing conflict. 

— Differences among succession planning tools. 

— Tax implications of various legal vehicles. 

Participants can submit questions in advance of each session and engage in live question-and-answer discussions. 

Participants can earn 1.5 continuing education credits from the Society of American Foresters per session. 

The registration deadline is 8 a.m. February 19. 

Registrants will receive a link to the recorded webinar within 10 business days after the live event. The recording will be accessible for six months from the event start.
