HONESDALE, PA — The sundae-making contest between the Wayne Commissioners and the Wayne County Dairy Princess and her court is always the highlight of the county’s annual proclamation—largely because they give away gallon upon gallon of the resulting mountainous sundaes.
The crowd began gathering around the noon-hour, waiting impatiently for the creators to finish working with the homemade ice cream provided by Yatsonsky’s Farm Market of Honesdale.
Aside from the fun of an old-fashioned ice cream social, the proclamation also reiterates the fact that “agriculture is Pennsylvania’s leading economic driver, and the dairy industry is its largest component.” Pennsylvania boasts the sixth leading dairy industry in the county, with “6,570 dairy farm families who manage 525,000 cows that produce 10.9 billion pounds of milk annually.”
If you would like to sample Yatsonsky’s ice cream, visit the market at 1009 Owego Tpk., Honesdale. Call 570/488-5683 for their hours of operation.
