Wayne County dairy princess and junior promoters crowned

Posted

On May 22, the Wayne County Dairy Princess Committee held the dairy princess and junior promoter pageant at Grace Episcopal Church, and crowned the 46th dairy princess.

This year’s candidate, Elektra Kehagias of Damascus, was crowned the 2022-2023 Wayne County Dairy Princess. Elektra, 16, is the daughter of Scott and Teresa Kehagias, and is currently a sophomore at Honesdale High School.

After graduating from high school, Elektra plans to attend college for a law degree. She is an active member of both the Tri-Gal and Horselovers 4-H clubs, and she volunteers regularly in her school and community.

Elektra has three Jersey heifers on her farm, the Nineleaf, and shows them at the local fair.

Rejoining the court this year is Dairy Miss Zoey Tyler, 11, of Honesdale, Dairy Miss Kenley Roberts, 10, of Milanville, and Dairy Miss Chloe Tyler, 9, of Honesdale.

The program began in 1947, and the first dairy princess was Jane Sandercock. As the years went on, the program grew, adding a royal dairy court to support the princess in promoting the dairy industry.

Among her many responsibilities, a dairy princess attends many social and competitive functions held at the regional and state level. That includes a competition to choose the state’s dairy princess. In 1992, the Wayne County dairy princess, Crystal Schweighofer Patterson, was crowned the Pennsylvania dairy princess.

Many sponsors were thanked for its support of the program; see the list online at riverreporter.com/community.
