HONESDALE, PA– The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department evacuated the Wayne County Courthouse just after 9 am this morning, following a bomb scare at the downtown facility.
At approximately 8:57 am the 911 center received a phone call stating that there was a bomb in the Courthouse. Information was obtained that the caller may have been in the downtown area of Honesdale Borough.
Members of the Honesdale Borough Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office did conduct a search throughout the town. At the same time the Courthouse was evacuated and a search was conducted throughout the entire building and nothing suspicious was found.
After rallying in Central Park, employees were moved to the Honesdale Senior Center to keep warm while deputies scoured the building. The Courthouse was later re opened.
The Honesdale Borough Police Department is heading the investigation, which is still on going.
