HONESDALE, PA — Sara Hailstone of Hailstone Economic attended the Wayne County Commissioners meeting on Thursday, October 1 to discuss the allocation of more than $2 million in federal CARES Act funding to businesses and nonprofits that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The commissioners approved the list of 147 businesses and organizations that received funding. (Scroll through the pictures at the top of this page to view the list of recipients).

Hailstone and the commissioners said that they decided who was eligible, and how much they were eligible for, based on the applicants' other grant funding streams, financial statements and numbers of employees. While only $2.5 million was available, the sum of all the businesses' and nonprofits' applications totaled nearly $10 million.

Commissioner Joe Adams noted that the process of receiving this grant money from the federal government, reviewing the applications and getting the money out to all of the businesses and organizations was an incredibly complex process, but that it had been completed very quickly. All CARES Act money the county received must be spent on approved COVID-19-related expenses by the end of the year.
