UGI requests rate increase for gas customers

Posted

PENNSYLVANIA — Utility company UGI has requested a $110.4 million increase in its residential, commercial and industrial gas rates. If the request is approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), the total bill for a residential heating customer using 73.7 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of gas a month would increase from $104.47 to $115.74, a 10.8% increase.

UGI stated the increases would cover its ongoing costs related to system improvements and operations necessary to maintain safe and reliable natural gas service.

The company serves gas customers throughout much of Pennsylvania, including portions of Wayne and Pike Counties.

The rate increase is requested to go into effect March 28. However, UGI expects proceedings with the Public Utility Commission to last until October.

Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) issued a statement critical of the proposed rate increase, saying, "It's unacceptable that NEPA families are fighting to keep their homes warm while corporate executives stand at the trough collecting multi-million-dollar compensation packages."

Bresnahan's office pointed out that UGI raised rates for residential customers 8.7% on December 1, 2024. It also stated that UGI's parent corporation, in partnership with Stonehenge Energy Resources III, recently completed a $120 million acquisition of Superior Midstream Appalacian LLC, acquiring a 49% ownership stake in that company.
