LACKAWANNA AND WAYNE COUNTIES — The Dime Bank contributed $7,500 to the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties’ (UWLW) Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Program through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. One hundred thirty-six pre-K students from income-eligible families in four counties received scholarships totaling $282,896 in financial assistance to attend quality pre-kindergarten programs.

(UDC) has released the fall-winter 2020 issue of its newsletter, “The Upper Delaware.” The newsletter about the environment and people of the Upper Delaware River Valley in New York and Pennsylvania has been published free of charge by the UDC since 1988.

MONTICELLO, NY — Following in the continuous tradition of community service, the Monticello Kiwanis Club presented Julian Dawson, chief professional officer of United Way of Sullivan County, with a check for $250 to purchase Thanksgiving food trimmings to accompany eight turkeys donated by Monticello Shop Rite. The food items were distributed to families in need in the community for their Thanksgiving enjoyment.
NEW YORK — New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the release of a draft Deer Management Plan for New York State for public review and comment. The plan builds upon the progress made by DEC’s first deer management plan, released in 2011, and will guide DEC’s deer management actions to balance natural resource protection, public safety, and recreational and economic interests for the next 10 years.
Comments on the draft plan should be sent to wildlife@dec.ny.gov (using “Deer Plan” in the subject line) or by mail to DEC Deer Management Plan, NYSDEC, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-4754. After reviewing public comments on this draft, DEC will amend the plan before adopting and publishing a final version.
The draft plan is available at www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7211.html. Public comments will be accepted through Monday, December 28.
MONTICELLO, NY — Resorts World Catskills hosted a Toys for Tots event on November 20 in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps. The event raised more than $10,000 for the Hudson Valley Toys for Tots program and has collected hundreds of presents for families in need.
“In order to fulfill our mission each year, we rely on partners like Resorts World Catskills, whose employees and guests have stepped up to make this holiday season a joyful one for less fortunate children across Hudson Valley,” said Sergeant George Matthews, coordinator for Hudson Valley Toys for Tots.
