ELDRED, NY — Yes, experience does matter.

And the girls’ varsity game of hoops on Wednesday, February 19 between the home team Lady Yellowjackets of Eldred (1-14) and the Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats (5-9) proved that point, as both teams took to the hardwood with not-the-most-impressive records.

It marked Eldred’s last home game of the season; the final game was scheduled for Friday, February 21 against the Lady Comets of Fallsburg.

Despite their records, both teams showed sparks of emerging skill that illuminates the future, as the younger bucketeers gain maturity and knowledge of the game.

The Lady Yellowjackets are captained by Jissela LaBuda and Kailee Mohan, while Manor’s Lindsey Parks leads her squad of Wildcats.

Eldred’s Paige Spradling led the crowd in singing the National Anthem, while custodian Tammy Wells provided a spirited half-time show dressed up as a yellow jacket.

In the first three periods, the visitors out-netted the home team (12-6, 6-5 and 8-7), while in the final frame, Eldred edged Manor 11-10.

A quick look at the postings reveals that the opening period swung the evening’s rising tide in favor of the Lady Wildcats as they outscored Eldred by 11 points on the way to a 41-29 win.

Eldred’s top scorers: Jissela LaBuda (13), Jada Reed (8).

Manor: Samantha Severing (21 points including a 3-pointer), Emma Carlson (10), Caitlin Davis (6 points including a 3-pointer).

Stats from the free-throw line: Eldred 7/14 (50 percent), Manor 5/8 (63 percent).
