Have you heard about the new trail initiatives transpiring in Wayne County, PA? Would you enjoy the opportunity to trek from Honesdale to Hawley by land or by water? Considerable progress has been made toward achieving both goals, spearheaded by the Wayne and Pike Trailways and Waterways Alliance.

The Wayne County Trail Feasibility Study analyzing a potential trail system along the Lackawaxen River Corridor from Honesdale, PA to Hawley, PA has been underway and is now in final draft form. Both hiking and water trails, including new river access points along the Lackawaxen River, are under consideration.

The public is encouraged to read the draft and to provide comments before the Sunday, March 15 deadline. Visit www.bit.ly/waynetrailstudy to learn more. A hard copy is also available for review at the Wayne County Chief Clerk’s Office in the Wayne County Courthouse at 925 Court St. in Honesdale.

In addition, mark your calendars for an opportunity to participate in a guided walk along the newly completed Hawley Trail Extension in Hawley, PA on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Join the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support), NEPA Sierra Club and Grant Genzlinger, Hawley Borough Representative for the Trail Feasibility Study, for an interpretive walk along a portion of the trail.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Contact kate@delawarehighlands.org or 570/226-3164 ext. 8 to register and receive directions to the starting location.
