Monticello Police arrested four men following a large disturbance at the Monticello Shell Mart convenience store on Jefferson street at 5:38 PM on Thursday 9/5/13.

At 5:38 PM Thursday Monticello Police responded to a reported fight in progress at the Monticello Shell Mart convenience store on Jefferson Street in the village of Monticello.

Upon officers arrival of officers Eric Yon was observed actively fighting with and then swinging a large PVC pipe at Brian Padin and Christian Morales. Officers ordered the subjects to stop fighting.

Padin and Morales complied with officer’s commands but Yon refused and continued swinging the pipe. Monticello officers then utilized a Taser to bring Yon down to the ground and take him to custody. Padin, Morales and Rafael Pichardo were then also arrested.

Officers were able to review video surveillance from the store, which showed Yon fighting with the other 3 males. When the other 3 males attempted to leave in a vehicle operated by Pichardo, Yon retrieved a long PVC pipe from his own vehicle and struck Pichardo's vehicle several times breaking the windshield and denting the vehicles body and hood.

The video also showed Pichardo intentionally driving at and nearly striking Yon with the vehicle. Padin and Morales then exited the vehicle and again began fighting with Yon as Monticello officers arrived on scene.

Yon was subsequently transported to CRMC by Mobile Medic ambulance for injuries to his left eye, left hand, ribs and a small laceration to his chest from being cut with a razor knife by Padin.

All of the defendants were arraigned in the village of Monticello justice court before village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn. Padin was remanded to the Sullivan county jail on $10,000.00 bail; Morales $3500.00 bail; Pichardo on $2500.00; Yon was released on a $15,000.00 personal recognizance bond.

Monticello Police are still trying to determine what started the fight. The Sullivan county Sheriff Office assisted Monticello police at the scene of the incident.
