MILFORD, PA — Milford author Richard Paterson has self-published a novel, “The Year the War Came Home,” that spans seven months, November 1969 to July 1970. The story weaves in historic events of the period—including the Vietnam War, Kent State shootings, first draft lottery, Apollo 13 and the My-Lai massacre.
The book tells the story of Max Carboni, who erects roadside crosses for family members of loved ones killed in highway accidents as he prepares to accept the Vietnam draft; and anti-war Francie, whom his overbearing father hires to sing hymns alongside Max at highway accident sites.
Paterson is a former director of Grey Towers National Historic Site and has lived in Milford since 2004.
