ELDRED, NY — Artist Brady Candell will lead workshop participants through an exploration of raku from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 10 at Sullivan Public.

This is the first raku workshop in an ongoing series.

Experienced potters who can bring their own bisqueware and new potters are invited.

Email ahead of registration to discuss the workshop.

Sullivan Public will provide dozens of glazes, varying reduction chambers and multiple combustible options, horsehair etc. This is a full day and a full-participation workshop. Everyone will be expected to have a hand in this firing. The point is the amazing process rather than the product, said Sullivan Public owner Jessie Lazar. Expect some breakage as you learn.

Everyone will be assured that three pieces (about six inches by six inches or smaller) will get fired. But bring more; we hope to be able to process additional work.

A pizza lunch will be provided, but if you have dietary restrictions please plan accordingly.

An email with suggestions on what pottery to make/bring, what to wear, what to expect and so on will follow registration.

Raku is an outdoor alternative firing technique and there is inherent danger in working with fire and extremely hot elements. Participants are asked to be aware of these conditions;S they will need to sign a liability waiver to participate.

The workshop is limited to 14 participants, and the cost is $150.

Sullivan Public is located at 16 Proctor Rd.
