GRAHAMSVILLE, NY AND ONLINE — It’s a massive dam and miles of dikes. It was built more than 100 years ago, mostly by hand—an undertaking nearly the magnitude of the Panama Canal.

Construction on the reservoir started September 30, 1907. The dam and dikes, followed by roads and bridges, were completed in December 1917. Completion was ahead of schedule and under budget.
Admission to the program is free for museum members and it costs $5 for non-members.
For virtual attendance, non-members can make a donation on the museum’s website at www.timeandthevalleysmuseum.org. To register and receive a program link, email info@timeandthevalleysmuseum.org and put Ashokan Reservoir Talk Zoom Link Request in the subject line, or call 845/985-7700.
In-person registration is not required and includes admission to the Museum’s three floors of interactive exhibitions.

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — This spring, come see members of the Delaware Valley Opera (DVO) family as they return to share their talents.
The kickoff event is a series of three concerts that celebrate the DVO’s progress and what it means to local singers.

Melanie Henley Heyn returns to the DVO at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. She will perform her one-woman opera show “Opera 101, or Opera in a Nutshell.”
Henley-Heyn was 10 years old when she first performed with the DVO as Amahl in “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” She performed every summer from elementary through high school. BINGHAMTON, NY — The Northeast Region of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) will host the Binghamton Team Hope Walk at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 1 at Otsiningo Park.
Each year, the event is held in honor of Ann Trip, who is currently battling Huntington’s disease. All proceeds support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease (HD) and their families.
The disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It impacts the patient’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. The symptoms have been described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s at the same time.
Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene.
Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at risk of inheriting the disease.
Team Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event. It takes place in over 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $20 million for HD since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and communities walk together each year.
For more information, contact Sally Forbidussi at sallyforbidussi423@gmail.com or by phone at 607/237-4427. Online registration and place to donate can be found at hdsa.org.
HDSA’s Team Hope Walk is sponsored by Teva Pharmaceuticals.
