Summer break cannot get here fast enough! I am looking forward to lazy days, puttering around the garden, walks around the lake, barbecues with family and friends and so much more. If Mother Nature could cooperate with warmer temperatures, that would be an added bonus.

Here are some events happening in our communities and beyond:

All are invited to the Lake Huntington Fire Company fundraiser on Sunday, June 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cochecton Fire Station. The fire trucks will be on site and it will be fun for the whole family. There’s free soda or egg cream for the kids and specialty cocktails are available, with a tasting by Pollinator Spirits. See you there, and let’s support our volunteers.

Mark your calendars for the 2025 Sullivan West High School Graduation on Friday, June 27 at 7 p.m .

The 2025 Bowhunter Youth Camp will be held on July 19 and July 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The camp is open to all youths aged 11 to 16 in New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 3, which includes Sullivan, Orange, Rockland, Westchester, Ulster, Dutchess and Putnam counties.

It is held each year at the Sullivan County Conservation Club in Ferndale NY, and area youths will find an informative, no-cost archery camp. The emphasis is on safety, and the camp covers everything from arrow making to tracking. Campers will learn almost everything they need to know to begin bowhunting.

The program is run by DEC-certified hunter education safety instructors, and all youths completing the camp will leave with the bowhunter safety certificate that is required to purchase a NYS archery license.

Space is limited, and admission to Youth Camp will be determined by a brief essay each applicant will include with this application explaining their interest in learning to bowhunt. The deadline for all applications is Monday, June 30. Applications should be submitted to Harry Walker, Sullivan County Archers, 149 South Shore Dr., Wurtsboro, NY 12790.

Call 845/794-6752  or email bowbender@hvc.rr.com for more information.

There will be a rabies clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Town of Fallsburg’s Morningside Park Pavilion, 630 Brickman Road, Hurleyville, NY. There is no charge. For more information, call the Sullivan County Department of Public Health at 845/292-5910.
