Sullivan West bestows athletic awards

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — On Friday, June 15, Sullivan West High School recognized the stellar achievements of their student athletes on the various fields of play during their annual Spring Sports Awards ceremony organized by the athletic department, under the direction of athletic director David Franskevicz.

Trophies were handed out in several categories, listed as follows.

  • Most Valuable Track Athlete 2018 (male)—Michael Mullally
  • Most Valuable Field Athlete 2018 (male) —Hashim Gambarie
  • Offensive Player of the Year 2018 (baseball)—Collin Hauschild
  • Defensive Player of the Year (baseball)—Brandon Dailey
  • Dedication to Excellence Award (female)—Sam Becker
  • Most Valuable Track & Field Athlete (female)—Ava McLeod
  • Miss Softball 2018 —Isabel Nearing
  • Most Improved Player 2018 (softball)—Morgan Kraack
  • Most Improved Golfer 2018 (male)—Liam Pereira-Mendoza
  • Lowest Average Score Golfer 2018 (male)—Tyler Ross
  • Miss Golfer—Hope Erlwein
  • Most Valuable Golfer (female)—Montana Schmidt
  • Most Valuable Senior Female Athlete (2017-2018)—LeizelSchlott
  • Most Valuable Senior Male Athlete (2017-2018)—Collin Hauschild
  • 2017-2018 Milt Gaeble Award (female)—McKinley Bernitt
  • 2017-2018 Milt Gaebel Award (male)—Alex Schwalb
  • 2017-2018 Coach’s Award (female)—Ava McLeod
  • 2017-2018 Coach’s Award (male)—Mike Mullally

Mike Mullally, Sullivan West’s gold-medal-winning track champion, was presented with a New York State Public High School Athletic Administration (NYSPHSAA) 2017-2018 banner for his winter indoor hurdling gold.

In addition, the Bulldogs “Golden Boy” was presented with a top hurdle bar engraved with all his state gold medal achievements:

  • 2017 Spring Track: 110 meter hurdles (14.6 NYS), 400 meter hurdles (53.43 NYS).
  • 2017-2018 Indoor Track: 55 meter hurdles (7.38 NYS & Federation).
  • 2018 Spring Track: 110 meter hurdles (14.38 NYS), 110 meter hurdles (14.15 Federation), 400 meter hurdles (52.81 NYS).

Also at the event, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nancy Hackett was presented with an appreciation plaque in honor of her retirement after serving the local central school district for six years.
