Sullivan County is home to my business and I have raised my family in Bethel. My wife, Cathleen Crumley Doherty, a member of the Monticello Central School District Board of Education, and I have three sons, aged 22, 21 and 17. I run a successful farm-to-table food purveying business called Sullivan County Farms that wholesales local and regional food products, including Brey’s Eggs (from Bethel), to many of New York City’s finest restaurants. This November, I am running as a Republican, Conservative and Independence Party candidate, and I’m union endorsed.

I am pro-farming, pro-sustainable land use and against “fracked” gas. Farming is an important part of Sullivan County’s past and future, especially so for District 1. I will work to identify new ways to bring opportunities and a better return on crops and land for farmers and landowners. The new casino alone will never be the economic engine and savior for Sullivan County. As your representative, I will compel the county to share tax revenue with towns, and explore the great potential for industrial hemp, renewable energy sources and eco-tourism in the Delaware River Valley and Bethel Woods corridor.

The toxic compressor station on Route 55 in Highland, the bogus impact study that allowed it to happen and the way the County IDA handed out tax abatements to the Eldred Preserve project next door, are a government embarrassment and a financial and health debacle in the making. I will work to limit the IDA’s ability to debilitate the finances of our county’s towns and villages.

I pledge to be accessible, attend local meetings and events and bring ideas and advocacy to the table that both benefit our economy and provide careful stewardship of the land and water that make District 1 such a jewel.
