Grief support

HONESDALE, PA — From March 2 through April 6, on Monday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m., Wayne Memorial Hospital is offering a six-week, free support group designed to help people cope with the grieving process. The meetings will be offered at Wayne Memorial Hospital and facilitated by Rev. Edward K. Erb and hospice social worker Anna Walsh,

Acknowledging that grief is a very individual process, the support group will encourage participants to explore their own solutions to the challenges of living without their loved ones and dealing with the many changes that follow a loss. The group will provide a safe place in which individuals can sort out their feelings and share as they are able and willing. No one will be required to share.

Participants are asked to complete this registration form, which can be found at www.wmh.org.

Subzero Heroes raises more than $106,000

HIGHLAND, NY — On February 8, around 400 people gathered at Berean Lake for the 10th Anniversary Subzero Heroes ice jump to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter. Eighty-six heroes took the plunge, according to event manager Lauren Voorhees, who said it was the most she had ever seen in her four years running the event. Each hero had to raise a minimum of $200 to jump, and the amount raised determined the jumping order.

The event surpassed its original goal, raising more than $106,000, with money still coming in; donations will be accepted through June. Funds raised will help provide free care and support to families touched by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia as well as research to find a cure.

The top three fundraisers were Jimmy Anzalone (Ulster County firemen), Bob Miller (Team Sal) and Meg and Brendan Boyce (Boyce Blazers), who’s combined individual fundraising efforts totaled almost $50,000.
