Well, those of us with children in Sullivan County made it through spring break. I hope you had a bit of fun in between the snowstorms and rain! I can’t believe that May will be here this coming weekend and with that comes flowers and sunshine, hopefully.

Don’t forget that these events are happening this weekend.

The Ladies Aid Society will hold a penny social on April 30. Doors open at 11:30 a.m and calling starts at 12:30 p.m. Hot dogs and sauerkraut and beverage are available for purchase, with cake and coffee after the calling. Masks required. Donation $1. It’s being held at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church. Hope to see you there!

Join the Delaware Youth Center for a clean-up day on Saturday, April 30th. Bring your shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, gardening tools, lots of energy and a friend! They can use all the help they can get to prepare for the spring and summer seasons. Perfect for volunteer hours for school, college, 4-H, etc. 8 Creamery Road, Callicoon, NY. Email info@delawareyouthcenter.org for more information.

Lander’s River Trips is opening for river trips on April 30. Book your first adventure this weekend and for their full season. Choose from rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing. Visit them online at www.landersrivertrips.com or call 800/252-3925.

Remember, the New York DEC BURN BAN is in effect from March 16 to May 14.

There will be new EMT-B and CFR Classes starting June 1 at SUNY Sullivan. The need has never been greater for trained volunteers and commercial first responders in the county. Call SUNY Sullivan for more details.

Fall soccer registration is open at ayso647.org!

$55, which includes $20 non-refundable AYSO National fee and $35 region fee. $20 late fee for registrations after June 15. Registration ends June 30. Please note uniforms (shirt, shorts, socks) are an additional $35 and will be sold in August. AYSO games are played Sunday afternoons, from September 11 to October 23. AYSO is a volunteer-run organization; please consider coaching. Also, they are in need of a regional commissioner, registrar, and ref admin to be trained this year and lead the roles next year. Reach out to aysoregion647@gmail.com with questions.

In restaurant news, we recently ate at The Old Foundation and what great food, menu, and special choices. The Buffalo Fried Calamari was excellent with just the right amount of spice and large portions! The burgers were also well-made, juicy, and flavorful as well. We will be back for live music and cocktails. If you have not made your way there yet, definitely stop by and have a drink at the bar or a meal in their dining room.

If you have a local business that you would like to be spotlighted in an upcoming column, please get in touch! Please email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events, and happenings.
