REGION — The weather that blew through the area—mostly in the form of heavy snowfall—caused schools to close, government buildings to shorten hours and a number of events to get cancelled.
Power went out on both sides of the river, and at the height of the storm, there were more than 2,300 people without power in Pike County, with many of the outages near Hawley. There were also more than 300 out in Wayne County. More than 5,000 people were without power in Sullivan County, with 713 losing power in Wurtsboro and 3,440 in the Town of Mamakating.

On December 2, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo declared states of emergency in seven upstate counties, including Ulster but not in Sullivan.
