UPPER DELAWARE RIVER, NY & PA — A winter storm hit the Upper Delaware the evening of November 22, blanketing the region in snow that knocked out power and closed schools.
Eldred, Sullivan West, Wallenpaupack and Wayne Highlands all declared school closures on Friday, November 23, along with multiple other schools throughout the region. Warming shelters opened up in Sullivan County, at the United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty; and at St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 St. John Street, Monticello.
Tens of thousands of customers lost power throughout the region. According to findenergy.com, as of 8 a.m. on November 23, 8,587 homes and businesses throughout Sullivan County had lost power, as well as 13,071 in Wayne County and 14,770 in Pike County.
