Seniors receive $7,000 in scholarships

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau awarded seven graduating seniors with scholarships of $1,000 each. Applicants wrote essays for “Agriculture: The Heart of a Growing Wayne-Pike County,” and submitted community service, extracurricular activities and work history along with their transcripts. 

The scholarships are designed to promote agricultural careers and assist deserving seniors with a long-term interest in agriculture.


Discover SUNY Sullivan Day

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Those interested in beginning their college careers are invited to attend Discover SUNY Sullivan Day on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. in the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse.

Prospective students will tour the campus, learn about financial aid and the application processes, explore housing options, meet faculty and staff members, and learn about extra-curricular activities including sports and clubs.

Those who bring an official transcript will receive instant acceptance to the college and will leave with their fall schedule of classes.

Monthly Alzheimer’s educational series

MILFORD, PA — Belle Reve Senior living is hosting an Alzheimer’s educational series, bringing the expertise of local professionals to discuss various topics each month. The next presentation will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 5 p.m.

Heather Almodoval, a registered nurse at Belle Reve with more than 20 years of nursing experience, will share tips to help you manage difficult behaviors exhibited by your loved one living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Honoring a Hidden Jewel

HONESDALE, PA — Holly Hubert was honored by the Wayne County Business and Professional Women on Monday, April 15 at a ceremony at Tick Tock’s Restaurant. Holly was designated this year’s “Hidden Jewel”, an award that recognizes someone for their unselfish, and quiet dedication to our community and those in need.


‘Farmers Round Table’

DAMASCUS, PA — Farms Arts Collective, a new argi-cultural center on Willow Wisp Organic Farm presents “Farmers Round Table,” a free community event that brings local farmers together for a discussion facilitated by farmer Greg Swartz, owner of Willow Wisp Organic Farm. Justin Sutherland of Somewhere in Time Farm and Brian Fox of Salem Mountain Farm will also be in attendance.

The conversation will address how to plan and manage farms and agricultural enterprises, and define the components of a successful farm. The conversation will also shape and define future Farm Arts Collective workshop programming.

SCDW announces auditions

HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW) is looking for four actresses that can play middle-aged women with southern accents for the the comedy “The Savannah Sipping Society.” Auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sullivan County Museum. Production dates are September 13 to 15 and 20 to 22 at the Rivoli Theatre in South Fallsburg.

The SCDW is also holding auditions for the comedy “A Bright New Boise” for five roles: Will, late 30s; Pauline, late  30s to early 40s; Anna, late 20s to early 30s; and Leroy, early to mid 20s. Come prepared with a one-minute monologue from a comedy or drama.

SEEDS hosts annual SWAPAPALOOZA

HONESDALE, PA — On Thursday, May 2, SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education & Development Support) will host its annual fundraiser auction with SWAPAPALOOZA at The Cooperage at 5:30 p.m. Food from Mustard Seed Café, craft beer by Here and Now Brewing Company and more are available for purchase. Admission is free.

In addition to the live and silent auctions, guests are encouraged to participate in the SWAPAPALOOZA: bring one item you no longer need and swap it for another item.

Birth & Baby Fest

HARRIS, NY — On Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m., Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) will host its Birth & Baby Fest at its Harris campus. Sponsored by Maternal Infant Services, this event is free for all pregnant women and new parents.

This event offers educational workshops on nutrition, breastfeeding, car seat safety and sleep safety. There will be raffle prizes and diaper giveaways, free gifts for all pregnant women and tours of the CRMC birthing center.

Time and the Valleys Museum looking for volunteers

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — The Time and the Valleys Museum is preparing to open for the 2019 season with a total of four interactive exhibitions.

Volunteers can help as little as twice a month, on a Saturday or Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. beginning on Memorial Day through the last weekend of September.

There are two different positions available. Those interested are encouraged to attend a training session.

Training for the museum front-desk assistant will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This assistant will greet visitors, take admission, answer questions and help in the museum shop.

Training for the Catskill Farm assistant will be at the farm on Friday, May 3 at 2:15 p.m. This assistant will encourage visitor interactions with the exhibits throughout the multiple buildings on the 1930s Lost Catskill Farm behind the museum.
