School taxes are not town taxes

Posted

Hi, hope you all are doing well.

It’s the time of year when I get phone calls and emails for school taxes.

I AM NOT the school tax collector; I’m the Cochecton town tax collector. But here is a lot of the information that you will need.

The school tax bills should be in the mail to you by September 1.

(Again, I’m the town tax collector, so you will hear from me on January 1.)

The legal notice for the school tax says, “Notice is hereby given that Doreen Hanson has received the 2021 School Tax Roll and Warrant of the Sullivan West Central School District.”

You may make payment by sending your ENTIRE BILL and check to the address listed below.

Or you can pay by installments (in Sullivan West school district only). Send the stub for the payment that is due.

Write your section, block and lot numbers on your check (i.e. 20.-1-16.5). These numbers can be found on the right side, near the top of your bill.

Mail your payment to

Sullivan West Central School District

Tax Collector

PO Box 2205

Buffalo, NY 14240-2205

Make sure that your payment is for the correct amount and that your check is signed!

If you made an error in your payment, it will be returned to you for correction. If this is near the end of the month, this may result in a higher interest charge, according to the date postmarked. Postage meters are not accepted!

For more information on interest, unpaid taxes, and what to do if you no longer own the property, contact school tax collector Doreen Hanson at 845/482-4610 x4115.

On Saturday, September 18, the Cochecton Men’s Club is having a chicken barbecue. Pick-up will be at the Cochecton Men’s Club ball field down in the flats by the post office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the donation is $13. The men’s club is also selling raffle tickets;  the prizes are nice amounts of money and tickets cost $20 each. For more information, give Sean Nearing a call at 845/807-3933.

Save the date! On Saturday, October 16, the Lake Huntington Ladies Aid will be holding its penny social. The ladies are working hard to get this event going. Stay tuned for more information.

If you have an event, or any town information to share, you can email me at leeniebeans@citlink.net, or call me at 845/252-3568. You can also find me in the Community Living section of the River Reporter.  Keep smiling, and have a great week.
