Robinson to serve as assistant DA in Wayne

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Former District Attorney Patrick Robinson, who was just recently unseated as DA by A.G. Howell in the 2019 municipal election, will serve as a temporary assistant DA on a month-to-month basis.

The Wayne County Commissioners finalized the decision on Thursday, January 9 at their weekly meeting, approving a monthly pay for Robinson of $7,500. Chairman Brian Smith said that this was the result of a “conversation and negotiation” that took place with the recently sworn-in DA Howell. Chief Financial Officer Vicky Botjer said there is precedent for this type of arrangement and that it’s permitted under the county code.

Robinson (D) and Howell (R) ran against each other for the DA position in 2019. They both made issues like the opioid crisis, child safety and drunk driving priorities in their campaigns, but had different philosophies on the solutions to some of the issues. For example, regarding drugs, Robinson favored a more aggressive, punitive approach, while Howell has promised to look for rehabilitative remedies.

Howell won the election with 6,596 votes over Robinson’s 5,530.
