Ribbon cutting for New York's biggest indoor waterpark

There was an overflow crowd on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Kartrite Indoor Waterpark and Hotel on May 10.

State Senator Jen Metzger said she would be back to make use of the various water features, and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther said she would bring her four grandchildren there in the summer.

David Kohlasch, general manager of the facility, which is being operated by Benchmark, which bills itself as a global hospitality company, said the 400 or so employees hired from Sullivan County were now part of a large family.

A post on the Benchmark website says, “The large, colorful mosaic that welcomes you to the Benchmark Home Office represents the fabric of who we are—more than 10,000 dedicated employees around the world who bring their unique talents, expertise and experiences to work every day."

The facility has 324 suites at the Kartrite range from $249 in low season to $499 a night peak times.  For people who live nearby and don’t plan to stay overnight day passes are available.

The $200 million tourist attraction is just down the road from the relatively new Resorts World Casino and the owners of each are hoping the combination will bring a new synergy to the Town of Thompson.
