HONESDALE, PA — The wrestlers of Honesdale High pinned a 7-1 team record (5-1 league) this season. They then went on to compete at the District 2 AA tourney and also made an appearance at the North East AA Regionals.

At the District 2 tourney, which took place from February 19 to 21 at the Mohegan Sun Arena, the Hornets finished in third place, just missing second place by three points.

On Saturday, February 27, the team took 29th place during the North East Regionals at Williamsport High School.

In the District 2 AA tourney, Tim Dailey (featured in a previous edition of the River Reporter) was crowned district champion at 189 pounds.

In the 113-pound weight class, Tristyn Bodie battled his way to become a district finalist, while third-place honors went to Drew Howell (120) and Paul Renner (172).

Adding to the team’s list of notable accomplishments for the season, four wrestlers placed in the top three spots at the districts and advanced to the regional tournament in Williamsport, PA.

The year started out on a high note, as Honesdale defeated their opponents in their first four outings, dropped one, and then wrapped up the regular season with three wins in a row on the way to the districts and regionals.

“I think we had as of successful a year as possible, with all things considered,” said coach Ryan Chulada. “We lose a few seniors, but our team is still very young, and I think we will be on an upward trajectory next season.”

Clulada said that looking ahead to next year, he has “high hopes” for Drew Howell, an up-and-coming senior, sophomore Joey Gianetti and Mason Avery, a freshman.
