Program to assist police, special needs interactions launches in Matamoras, Westfall

MATAMORAS, PA — The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department, which serves the Borough of Matamoras and Westfall Township, has announced the launch of a new Handle with Care Registry, designed to assist officers in providing better support and care for individuals with special needs.

The program allows parents, guardians and caregivers to voluntarily register loved ones with special need, ensuring that essential information is available to police officers in the event of an emergency. By having access to specific information about individuals with special needs, officers can respond more effectively and with greater understanding during encounters, whether it's a lost person report, medical emergency or any other situation, according to the department.

All information provided in the registry is confidential and will only be accessed by law enforcement or emergency responder personnel in the event of an emergency, according to the department. The registry allows for the creation of detailed profiles, including medical conditions, behavioral considerations, communication preferences and emergency contact details. Registration can be completed online through the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department's website at www.eprpd.org. Parents, guardians and caregivers are encouraged to provide as much detail as possible to help our officers understand the specific needs of each individual.
