ELDRED, NY — With big development projects on the horizon, including the $37M development at the former Kittatinny Canoes on Route 97 in Barryville, the Town of Highland Planning Board is fully staffed. Chairman Norman Sutherland, seated center, is succeeding Berry Hafkin, who served on the board for over 20 years. Sutherland is flanked by members Jeff Spitz, left, and John Vogt. Board secretary Monica McGil, standing right, is pictured next to newly appointed alternate members Scott Reed and Laura Burrell. Steve Bott moved from the position of alternate to full member, and Tim McKenna was newly appointed to the board. All appointments, including the chairmanship, were filled by the Highland Town Board.
As part of the reorganization, Sutherland said that draft minutes of meetings would be posted within two weeks and that an agenda would be posted 10 days in advance of any planning board meeting.
The 27-minute April 27 meeting featured two applicants who were seeking approval for short-term rental operating permits. The board referred them to section 190-2-1 of the Town of Highland Code, which requires a engineer’s site plan for the property and project. It was announced that the board will serve as the lead agency in the Northgate/Kittitinny development project. Its representatives will be at the next meeting, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at the Highland Town Hall in Eldred.
