MILFORD, PA — Social interaction plays a crucial role in the well-being of seniors, providing them with opportunities for connection, engagement in community activities, and fostering meaningful relationships, according to the Pike County Area Agency on Aging.
“For the elderly, participating in social interactions within senior communities can lead to enhanced emotional well-being, healthy aging and a strong support system that combats feelings of isolation and loneliness,” the agency’s recent newsletter says.
The agency is working with Delaware Valley High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
“The importance of intergenerational interaction is such a positive and significant role for both seniors and students, the learning transfer is priceless,” the agency noted.
FBLA member Anna Vogel recently completed her FBLA Capstone Project, in which she worked with others to collect toiletries for the region’s homebound seniors. She also created activity booklets which are distributed to every home-delivered meal consumer to combat social isolation.
“Anna and the National Honor Society have also collected donations to assist our seniors in need as her choice of fundraisers,” the newsletter stated. “Thank you, Anna!”
Pike County Aging will also be working with Delaware Valley Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) program.
“Look for the students in our senior centers. We are very excited and are looking forward to watching the exchange of knowledge and intergenerational relationships form.”
