Objection! Constitutionally speaking

NATION — New York State Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther holds an “Are you registered?” sign at the May 12 rally in Liberty’s LaPolt Park. Her subtle message was that as Americans, when we don’t approve of what our government is doing, we can vote to change the government. To do that, we need to participate.

The rally was one of many rallies held around the U.S. in the wake of the recent leak of a draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion that has endured for a half century. Advocates state that if the leaked draft opinion takes effect it could create a cultural revolution, perhaps opening the door to other established rights, such as contraception, same-sex marriage and LBGTQ+ rights, being dismantled.
