Jennie R. Barnes, 71, a longtime resident of Barryville, NY, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. The daughter of the late Loris and Ethel (White) Knapp, she was born April 4, 1951 in Lords Valley, PA. She was a graduate of Quakertown High School, Quakertown, PA.

Obituary: Jennie R. Barnes

Jennie R. Barnes, 71, a longtime resident of Barryville, NY, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. The daughter of the late Loris and Ethel (White) Knapp, she was born April 4, 1951 in Lords Valley, PA. She was a graduate of Quakertown High School, Quakertown, PA. 

She was a current president of the American Legion Post 1363 Auxiliary. She was a Life member of the Yulan Rod and Gun Club.   

A family statement reads: “Jennie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved to read books, enjoyed attending flea markets, enjoyed collecting Norman Rockwell Memorabilia/Collectables. She also enjoyed sitting out on the deck with her husband Peter. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She will be truly missed by her friends, but most of all by her family.” 

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Peter Barnes; her son Jeffrey Barnes and his wife Melissa of Greeley, PA; her daughter Pennie Huber and her husband Tim of Hawley, PA; her grandchildren Jessica Spangler and her husband Joshua of Carson, CO; Kayla Barnes of Honesdale, PA; Evan Huber of Hawley; Lydia Huber of Hawley; her sisters Arlene Kelly and her husband George of Hawley; Delores Preuss and her husband Bill of Greeley; Debbie Toth and her husband Michael of Melbourne, FL; her brothers Bernard Knapp of Hawley; James Knapp and his wife Judith of Hawley; Joseph Knapp and his companion Dawn of Hawley; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jennie is predeceased by her two brothers, William Knapp and Charles Knapp. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 State Rte. 97, Barryville. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jennie’s name to American Legion Auxiliary, 17 Collins Rd., Eldred, NY 12732.

Arrangements are under the care of the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 State Rte. 97, Barryville, NY. 845/557-8010.
