MONTICELLO, NY — An attempt to hold a vote on the new management company for the Care Center at Sunset Lake failed at last Thursday’s, February 28, executive committee meeting.
Legislative chair Rob Doherty introduced a handout resolution calling for a vote to choose between Infinite Care Management, The Grand Healthcare System and VestraCare/McGuire Group, “and submit it to the Sunset Lake LDC for the purpose of negotiating a lease.”
A handout means a copy of the resolution was not available as part of the agenda packet.
Once the lease was negotiated and accepted, it would take effect immediately.
“Mr. Chair,” said Nadia Rajsz, “I’m not often speechless, because I can talk forever about anything, but I’m just speechless and dumbfounded about all this. Why is this being rushed? Why is this a handout? Why aren’t we taking more time and doing our due diligence? Why does it have to be done now? Today? What’s the rush?”
There was applause from the otherwise silent audience.
Luis Alvarez asked to set the resolution aside under new legislative rules. There was a brief recess, and ultimately, it didn’t come to a vote.
