HIGHLAND, NY — Sonia Kidney, the newly elected Highland Town Board member, was sworn in at the January 7 reorganization meeting by Sullivan County Clerk Russell Reeves.
Kidney was elected to fill former town board member Jim Akt’s seat.
Akt had been appointed by the previous town board in December 2023 to fill a vacancy after Chris Tambini resigned from the board that same month. Town board appointees are required to run for their seats when next up in the elections.
Kidney will serve for 2025, the remainder of Tambini’s original term. Highland will vote to fill the four-year board seat in November 2025.
Kidney was also appointed to serve as the deputy supervisor. Resident Glenn Pontier had previously served in that role in 2024. Supervisor John Pizzolato thanked Pontier for his dedicated work as deputy supervisor. Pontier was appointed chair of a newly formed committee: health and wellness. The committee’s charge is to work to bring health services to the town to improve access.
